Diyala – The Secretary General of the Islamic Union of Turkmen of Iraq and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Engineer Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, accompanied by a delegation from the Union’s leadership, met with Diyala Governor Adnan Al-Shammari during an official visit to the governorate.
According to a statement issued by the Union, the meeting focused on a number of service and administrative issues, in addition to discussing the situation of the Turkmen community in Diyala Governorate and ways to improve public services in Turkmen-populated areas, including Qara Tapa, in recognition of their role and standing within the province’s social fabric.
The Secretary General also stressed the importance of reinstalling the statue of the late Turkmen scholar and historian Mustafa Jawad in its original location in Al-Khalis, following the completion of reconstruction, maintenance, and rehabilitation works at the square. He noted that restoring the monument would honor Mustafa Jawad’s scholarly and cultural legacy while reflecting Iraq’s commitment to preserving the memory of its distinguished intellectual figures and national heritage.
